About The Role
NLA are seeking an experienced Senior Accountant – Client Advisor to join their small, high-performing team.
You will assist with tax compliance and team delivery while personally managing a portfolio of clients across Australia. You’ll deliver integrated Senior Accountant services through regular virtual client meetings, blending proactive tax planning with forward-looking business advisory.
Whilst NLA is based in Torquay this role can be performed remotely from home and co-working space in Melbourne.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting & Tax Compliance
- Prepare and review financial statements for clients including SMEs, trusts, partnerships, SMSFs and individuals.
- Manage end-to-end tax compliance for a portfolio of SME clients, including income tax returns, GST, FBT, PAYG, workpapers, and ATO lodgements.
- Advise clients on tax planning opportunities and strategies.
- Maintain the highest technical standards and ensure timely, accurate delivery.
Business Advisory
- Lead client meetings, providing cash flow forecasting, budgeting, KPI reporting, performance reviews, and growth guidance.
- Integrate tax planning into broader business advisory discussions to deliver actionable insights.
- Assist clients with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis
Practice Contribution

- Support the continued growth and refinement of our service offering
- Improve internal processes and help evolve our advisory services
- Collaborate closely with the Director and team on integrated client solutions
Who You Are
- CA, CPA or CTA qualified (or close to completion)
- 5+ years’ experience in tax and accounting, with at least 2–3 years at a senior level in public practice
- Proven track record leading client advisory or Virtual CFO-style meetings
- Strong technical knowledge of Australian tax law (ITAA, GST, FBT, Division 7A, etc.)
- Excellent communication skills and confidence facilitating virtual client sessions with business owners
- Experience managing a small team and delivering high-quality work under deadlines
- Comfortable working with cloud-based tools and modern practice management systems
- Industry experience in trades, construction, or project-based businesses highly regarded
- Understanding of businesses in the $1M–$10M revenue range (or similar experience from larger organisations) is a strong advantage
